Money still available for East Riding businesses as Discretionary Grant Scheme is extended

Money is still available to help businesses in the East Riding as the deadline for applications to the Discretionary Grant Scheme has been extended to Sunday 19 July.

Grant aid of between £5,000 and £25,000 could be available to the following businesses that have not already received Government funding during the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Small businesses, micro businesses, and charities
  • Businesses that provide goods and services to the retail, leisure and hospitality industry.

The grants have been made available as part of the £4 million Government-backed Discretionary Grant Scheme, which is being administered by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, to help those businesses which have been unable to access other forms of financial support.

Small businesses and charities

Micro businesses and charities that meet the criteria can apply for a grant of up to £10,000.

Larger small businesses and charities that meet the criteria can apply for grants of either £25,000 or £10,000 depending on their level of property costs.

Those businesses who may be eligible include:

  • Businesses that share a work space,
  • Market traders,
  • B&Bs that pay council tax
  • Charities in receipt of charitable business rates relief. 

Businesses that provide goods and services to the local retail, leisure and hospitality industry

Minimum grants of £5,000 are being made available to those eligible businesses directly involved in the supply chain to those in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector and that have a rateable value of more than £15,000 and less than £51,000.

Those businesses who may be eligible include:

  • Factories
  • Breweries
  • Warehouses
  • Workshops

Councillor Richard Burton, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "We believe there are still some businesses in the East Riding in need of grant aid at this difficult time, so that is why we have decided to extend the deadline for applications.

"If your business hasn't yet received cash help from the Government, and you think it may qualify for a Discretionary Grant, I would urge you to apply for this financial help right now."

Those businesses who have already applied for grants, applications forms are being verified and payments will be made as soon as possible.
