YORSwitch registering in full swing before latest round deadline

Wed, 04 Mar 2020

Almost 1,000 East Riding households have so far opted to switch energy supplier in the latest YORSwitch round before the deadline at midnight on Tuesday, 24 March.

Since 2013, YORSwitch has switched more than 30,000 households and delivered more than £6.3million savings for East Riding residents.

In the latest round, personal offers have been issued to more than 5,000 households that have registered an interest and have until the 24 March deadline to switch. The average saving this time around is £275 per household so residents are encouraged to make the saving.

And households have the opportunity to make a green option as one of the winning suppliers provides energy "that's good for the planet".

Octopus Energy has, since 2016, supplied renewable energy, picking up an average of 30,000 customers a month and currently providing to 1.2million UK homes. After the auction, it will supply dual fuel (via online billing) to households wishing to switch.

Residents looking for additional support before the March switching deadline can attend any one of the number of support sessions this month to discuss the benefits from the scheme and find out if savings can be made on energy bills. The sessions are at:

Brough Petuaria Centre - Wednesday, 11 March, 9.30am-12noon

Bridlington North Library - Thursday, 12 March, 9.30am-12noon

Driffield Centre - Thursday, 12 March, 2-4pm

Haltemprice Library and Customer Service Centre - Friday, 13 March, 9.30am-12noon

Cottingham Centre - Monday, 16 March, 9.30am-12noon

Beverley Customer Service Centre - Tuesday, 17 March, 9.30am-12noon

Pocklington Pocela Centre - Thursday, 19 March, 9.30am-12noon

Registering for YORSwitch is easy. Residents can visit www.eastriding.gov.uk/yorswitch where information about energy usage can be inputted to get a no-obligation quote straight away.

Alternatively, call (01482) 393939 or - if residents do not have access to the internet - visit any local East Riding of Yorkshire Council customer service centre to register. It is advised that residents have a latest energy bill to hand when registering.

If residents need to visit one of the council's customer service centres, please do so before Friday, 13 March to allow time for registration to be made.

How YORSwitch works:

  • Register for free to get a quote online at eastriding.gov.uk/yorswitch or by telephone on (01482) 393939. Residents can also register for more than one household - so family members, for example, can be registered too.
  • An auction takes place between energy suppliers. The winning supplier is the one making the lowest offer (in this round they are Octopus Energy, Together Energy and E.ON). YORSwitch is not affiliated to any supplier.
  • Registration is free and residents are under no obligation to switch.
  • If happy with the offer, residents have until midnight on Tuesday, 24 March to switch.
  • East Riding of Yorkshire Council takes care of the entire switch for residents, making the whole thing as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
