Scheduled to open in the Spring, the newly expanded and refurbished South Cliff Holiday Park will provide the chance to own holiday homes and lodges; enjoy touring holidays; motorhomes; camping; glamping; and hire holiday homes and lodges.
The £10.8 million expansion and refurbishment of the park will also provide a boost to the wider Bridlington economy, as it is estimated that an additional 150,000-plus visits will be made to the town each year. It is estimated that this will increase visitor spend in the wider economy by around £4.2 million a year.
The popular facility is expanding on to adjacent land, and will boast 31 additional pitches for tents; 15 new units for ‘glamping’ (or ‘glamorous camping’); 48 additional touring pitches; 132 additional static pitches; and 19 additional lodges. There will also be a new Welcome Centre to help staff deliver a five-star visitor experience (with up to five new jobs created), and a new area for meeting and greeting customers.
The site will also offer hot tubs for some of the higher end accommodation, fully accessible holiday home options, a pump track (an off road terrain cycle track), and an adventure play area. There will also be a chance to reconnect with nature on a picturesque woodland walk, where guests will be able to exercise their dogs or just sit out with the family on one of the picnic benches in the shade of the tree line canopy and experience the natural woodland.
The new 2019 Deluxe holiday homes offer stylish accommodation, whilst the new Premier holiday range features modern open-plan living space with contemporary décor and styling. The new lodges are set beside the woodland area and have additional space for the whole family to enjoy.
The dog friendly touring and motorhome area will be situated on the new development, close to all the facilities. The camping area will also be on the new development, just a few minutes’ walk from the Makis Entertainment Complex. The spacious Shepherd Huts will be on the new site, as will the six-person camping pods.
Just beyond the new site are some great family bike rides on the quiet local road network, and access on foot to the new England Coast path with the amazing scenery of the cliff top walks. Just a few miles away are some of the best wildlife watching opportunities at local nature reserves such as Danes Dyke, South Landing Flamborough cliffs and the RSPB at Bempton Cliffs.
Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for strategic asset management, housing and environment, said: “This newly expanded and refurbished holiday park will revolutionise what’s on offer for our visitors, whether purchasing or hiring their holiday accommodation, which in many cases will be larger, and more modern than before. It’s particularly exciting that visitors to the holiday park spend so much of their time in Bridlington itself, and the surrounding area, and so greatly boost the local economy.”
John Skidmore, director of adults, health, and customer services at the council, added : “This wonderful new development will be a fantastic opportunity for even more people to come and experience what Bridlington and the surrounding area has to offer. I am delighted that we as a council have been able to invest in this superb facility and play a key part in stimulating the area.”
Peter Dodd, Commercial Director at Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “It’s fantastic that Bridlington’s South Cliff Holiday Park is expanding as a result of a multi-million pound investment and on completion this spring, will be a great addition to the beautiful Yorkshire coastal town. This promises to be a real boost to the resort’s tourism industry, local businesses and economy, creating jobs and attracting even more visitors to enjoy Bridlington’s impressive beaches, promenade and historic harbour.”
David Dowson, Chair of Bridlington Business Forum, added : “This expansion and refurbishment is fantastic news for the town. I am delighted to see that the council has the confidence to invest on this scale in this facility, and especially pleased that the extra visitors will come and contribute to the economy of the wider area, rather than just remaining on the Park. This investment confirms the East Yorkshire Coast once again as a major player in this industry.”
