What is a housing immigration inspection?

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is able to offer inspections for immigration purposes to those living in the area. These will be carried out by a specialist housing officer who will provide a report acceptable to immigration authorities for you to include in your application.

To receive a compliance report from East Riding of Yorkshire Council the dwelling inspected must meet the following criteria:

  • Free from category 1 and significant category 2 hazards under the Housing Act 2004 and associated guidance, Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS)
  • Meet the decent homes standard
  • Sufficient space so as not to be overcrowded and accommodate both the current occupiers and any additional people who propose to live there
  • No outstanding notices under the Housing Act 2004. 

How do I request a housing immigration inspection report?

To request a housing immigration inspection report please contact Private Sector Housing. An officer will then arrange to visit at a mutually-convenient time. 

This can be via email to private.sector.housing@eastriding.gov.uk or telephone (01482 396301) (select option 2 from the choices).

What needs to be provided for an immigration inspection?

In addition to the inspection the following information/ documentation is required:

  • The name, date of birth and passport number of the person seeking entry to the UK
  • A copy of a tenancy agreement or proof of ownership of the property, and name and date of birth of other occupants in the property to be inspected
  • If the property is privately rented a copy of the latest Gas Safety Certificate.

Please note: if the property is a house in multiple occupation then further certification will be required, please contact Private Sector Housing for further information.

How much does it cost for a housing immigration inspection report?

The fee charged for the inspection is £175.
