COVID-19 Service Information

Visiting guidance

From Monday, 19 July, East Riding Libraries and Customer Services are pleased to adapt some of the safety measures previously put in place and open our spaces for wider usage.

The changes are as follows:

In customer service centres:

  • face coverings are recommended, although not mandatory
  • there will no longer be a member of staff on the door
  • customer services continue to be available by appointment only.

In multi-service centres:

  • face coverings are recommended, although not mandatory
  • customer services continue to be available by appointment only
  • there will no longer be a member of staff on the door, however customers are still welcome to continue using the order and collect service. Items can be collected from the reservations shelves inside the library
  • more computers will be available.
  • comfortable furniture and study spaces will be re-introduced over the coming weeks.
  • social groups will be incrementally re-introduced over the summer, with all libraries (space and government guidance permitting) having a social activity programme from September
  • books will not be quarantined upon return, meaning they will be taken off your library account at the time of return
  • fines continue to be suspended until autumn, when they will be reviewed again.

Service by appointment

Customer Services are available by appointment only.

For enquiries that cannot be done over the telephone or via the website, customers should still call (01482) 393939 to make the initial enquiry and an appointment will be arranged.

Our multi-service centres (MSCs) at Brough, Cottingham, Driffield, Haltemprice, Hedon, Hessle, Hornsea, Market Weighton, Pocklington and Withernsea will also see customers by pre-arranged appointment only.

Call or do it online

Most enquiries can now be dealt with safely and easily by telephone or online. This includes renewals and applications for Blue Badges.

Please call (01482) 393939 and an advisor will be able to discuss your enquiry with you and if required, arrange an appointment at your nearest centre. Our peak times are Mondays and the day after a bank holiday. You may wish to avoid calling at these times.

All customer service centres and multi-service centres will be open for payments. In order to make payments in the safest and fastest way, customers should bring a copy of their bill or barcode with them.

You can also make payments at your local Post Office or at any Pay Point outlet.

Please remember to take your account number or a bill that shows your barcode.
